Hi guys,
Im an Irish guy that has just returned from living in Sibiu with my Romanian girlfriend. She still lives there but we are hoping to have her come here to live and work. We applied for a holiday visa last year and were granted it but never used it due to family commitments. Im back in Ireland now and just starting a new job. Do ye think it is worth while applying for another holiday visa, or is it better to wait until the new year? What do people think will happen when Romania joins the EU? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated,
thanks,
James

btw sorry for my lack of Romanian, its still too poor to grace this forum:)

When Romania joins EU, your girlfriend should be able to travel to Ireland without any problems whatsoever.

While you are waitting for this to happen you can still apply for holiday visa, it doesn't hurt to have it handy just in case EU doesn't go through next year.

BTW welcome to our community.

thanks for the welcome:) We're beginning the long slow application process again. I just read the comments about the consulate moving address and not providing details. When I was there I was embarressed by the condition of the place. Its a shame how little money or effort the Irish government puts into the consulate there. Although I expect all that will change now that Romania is being promoted in the newspapers here as an investment opportunity. Anyway thanks for the reply, I hope to improve my Romanian enough to try and make some replies in a proper language sometime soon:)

Don't be embrressed by that, it happens, taking in cosideration Ireland and Romania are only bulding a proper relation since this year cause we are supposed to get into the EU, otherwise it will stay the same.

Keep at it and you will. Look at us, we are picking english very quick including the Irish accent...lol.

In our country there is a saying: In Rome you dress like romans...

Well the Irish accent is like a virus, you'll pick it up whether you want to or not:D

I submitted the application for intention to marry but was told that there will be citizenship requirements. I have a freind who married a canadian girl while she was in Ireland on a holiday visa. Thats what we are planning to do. Does anyone know if this is possible? Are there any obstacles we should be looking out for?[br]Postet at: September 05, 2006, 04:39:11 PM________________________________________________ _By the way if anybody needs help, directions or assistance from an Irish citizen then Id be happy to offer any little support that I can....

yes:::::

Time (:o), this is the only obstacle. >:(

You know that you need to apply for marriage, wait 3 months and after the set day you have to wait another 22 days before the actual civil marriage to take place.

A tourist visa is valid for only 3 months (or up to) so then you can't fit 115 days in 90 days.

the good news may lay in couple of weeks when we know the date of Romania's accesion to EU, which hope still is 1st January 2007, and then is a lot more easy to marry, to reside and work (unless the new immigration bill spoils all this).

keep in touch.

Hmmmmmmmmm, well we have the intention to marry form submitted now so the 2 month requirement will be fullfilled by the time she arrives. As for the EU accession.... I get a queasy feeling in my stomach when I try to be optimistic about it. I'd obviously love to see it happen but when I hear stories in the news hear about how the Irish government might deny full rights for the new accession countries then its hard not to doubt.

Thanks for the help and wishes of good luck though.........and Orla, the Irish accent is a great asset but I have to say that the Romanian accent is beautiful too, especially the Sibian one (but I guess I'm biased there :))
