Dear Sarah,
It was good to talk you just now and thank you for giving me Salome’s number. I am doing some research for a television programme concerning immigrants in Ireland and I would like to make some links with ethnic communities in Ireland with a view to their participation in the series.
Just to tell you a little bit more about the programme, No Place Like Home. It's an eight part series called No Place Like Home, and the first series was shown on RTÉ 1 in January/February 2006. I have just started some initial research for the second series, which we hope to broadcast in September this year. We got a very positive reaction to the last series from both participants and the public.
The concept is a simple one, Bob Kelly our presenter goes in search of authentic ethnic communities all around Ireland be it a Romanian family dinner, Chinese wedding, or Nigerian place of worship. He then talks to one person from this group and get them to tell their story; Why they are here? When they came here? Their experiences so far? The presenter will then take a video postcard from the person and travel back with their permission to visit their family and friends back home. He will try and discover a little more about the cultures and lifestyle of their homeland.
In the process, we hope to explode many of the stereotypes that have grown up in our rapidly changing country and encourage mutual understanding between people from different backgrounds.
If I could put me in touch with some of your contacts who would be interested in talking to me that would be great.
I look forward to speaking to you very soon.
Kind regards,
Anne.
