1999. A group of Romanians show up at the Irish consulate in Bucharest, claiming to be a folk choir invited to a festival in Sligo. They fool the Consulate, and even produce a demo CD of their music. They get visas. They land in Dublin and are never heard from again. The press goes wild.

2004. The honorary Irish consul in Bucharest, Barry Mulligan - the very man who had signed the visas for the "choir", starts a movie-making adventure based on this story. Funnily, he plays the lead - a little shmecherash who makes it all happen for the Romanians wanting to emigrate, finding... creative solutions to their problem - and co-writes the story. Directors John Riley and John Ketchum turn it into a rolling-on-the-floor-die-laughing comedy, spiced with many details so familiar to any Romanian person. The movie is filmed in Romania, with Romanian actors, and spoken in English and Romanian. It's called "What means motley". Action movie meets Kusturica.

2006. "What means Motley" is launched, at the Chicago film festival and in Dublin, on Feb 24, at 18h20, in the IFI (Irish Film Festival), on Eustace Street in Temple Bar. If I were you I wouldn't miss it :)
